All our students are tested on entry to assess their level of English. They are asked to do a placement test and have an oral interview. We monitor students’ progress through the course to see their achievements. At the end of the course they take a final test and receive a certificate. Teachers follow the School syllabus which covers the material taught at each stage.
General English classes are conducted to all levels from Beginners to Advanced. The length of each stage is 12 weeks but it can take longer. As we wish to make the process of learning both efficient and enjoyable, we use the communicative method in our work. This approach enables students to communicate efficiently in different life situations.
We give our students the opportunity to improve all-round ability in English by focusing on speaking, listening, writing and reading skills. All classes are designed to provide systematic development of all skills.
The focus of the programme is on practical communication skills, with emphasis on speaking, listening and pronunciation. Teachers encourage students to speak English from the very early stage (Beginners), creating a favourable friendly atmosphere in the classroom and establishing a direct contact with each student. All students are involved in the process of studying as teachers offer a wide range of activities, encouraging students to practice in different modes: pair work, discussions, group work.
Academic trips are included into the programme and are organized once a month on Friday or Thursday afternoon ( 3 hours). Students have a chance to visit the most popular places in London , such as British museum, National Gallery, Tate's modern and complete a project under teacher's supervision.
Students are also given some assignments for homework to have more opportunities for practice, especially in writing. There are max 16 students in a class. We always bear in mind individual interests and abilities of our students as well as their cognitive styles. We use the most efficient and modern text-books as well as other teaching materials, such as video, DVD, newspapers, magazines, maps, pictures and so on, students receive photocopies of their lesson material.
